The Downtown Development Authority is excited to announce the arrival of the Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit in downtown Hastings.  The exhibit features sixteen sculptures placed around the downtown that can be easily reached by a comfortable walk.  Five of the sculptures have been gifted to the City for permanent display and eleven are on lease for a year from Midwest Sculpture Initiative.

The sculptures, procured by Midwest Sculpture Initiative, have been selected by an advisory committee that will include members of the DDA, City Council, Thornapple Arts Council, Art Instructors, Art Enthusiasts, Barry County Chamber of Commerce, Hastings Planning Commission, and the Youth Advisory Council.

The exhibit will be on display from May 2010 through April 2011.

The opening celebration of the exhibit will take place on June 11th from 5-8PM.

The sculptures will be available for private or public purchase.  The community is encouraged to memorialize or gift, to the City of Hastings, any of the ten sculptures for permanent public display.

Recently the sculpture "Storm" was purchased and gifted to the City of Hastings by Emily and Dave Jasperse, Bosley Pharmacy for permanent display in Parking Lot #6, which is located at the southeast corner of Jefferson St. and Center St. The sculptor, Robert R. Garcia, is from Ohio and his sculptures have received many awards and commissions and have been selected for several prestigious exhibitions.
